Officials seek input for Bentonville airport plan

BENTONVILLE -- The public can give feedback about the municipal airport's master plan update during a workshop Monday night.

The meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the airport terminal, 2500 S.W. Aviation St.

It likely will be the last public meeting before the update is finished, said Ben Peters, city engineer who manages the airport.

Morrison Shipley is the lead engineer on the update and has contracted with Kimley-Horn and Associates.

The last public meeting was held in February. Officials presented information regarding the airport's inventory and what it would need based on population growth. Monday's meeting will focus more on the airport's physical attributes, such as taxiway locations and hanger facilities, Peters said.

The last meeting had a good turn out, but everyone who attended had connections to the airport.

"We're hoping to get a little more public input this time," Peters said.

About 275 door hangers promoting the meeting were distributed to area homes and businesses near the airport.

Concept plans to make the airport more inclusive to the general public also will be included in the plan update, officials have said. Ideas include more green space where people can watch planes take off and land and amenities where events could be held.

The airport's plan was updated in 2003. Airport plans typically are updated about every 10 years, according to Peters.

This update will cost about $162,000 and is being paid for by a $150,000 FAA grant. The remainder will be reimbursed through a state grant once the update is done.
