Arkansans Across the Minors

Who's hot

BRETT EIBNER (AAA Royals) scored 8 runs on 11 hits, including 3 doubles and 3 home runs, with 9 RBI and 3 stolen bases to raise his batting average from .297 to .304.

MARK REYES (A Giants) won twice to improve his record to 6-4. Reyes earned victories against Greenville (A Red Sox) on July 24 and on Friday at Rome, Ga. (A Braves). He allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of an 8-3 victory over Greenville. Reyes pitched 7 scoreless innings in a 5-3 victory over Rome. He allowed 3 hits with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Who's not

COLLIN RADACK (high-A Cardinals) saw his batting average drop from .304 to .292 in his past seven games. He had 4 hits, including 1 double, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI.

JUSTIN THOMAS (high-A Nationals) suffered a loss July 24 against the Frederick (Md.) Keys (high-A Orioles). Thomas allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout in 4 innings of a 5-1 loss.

News and notes

• Pitcher Mike Bolsinger (Arkansas Razorbacks) was optioned to Class AAA Oklahoma City by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday to make room for newly-acquired pitcher Alex Wood, who is scheduled to start Tuesday in Philadelphia. Bolsinger, who was called up to the Dodgers on May 12, had a 5-3 record with a 2.83 ERA. He was coming off what he called a frustrating start against Oakland on Wednesday, in which he allowed 8 hits and 3 walks on 90 pitches, leading to 2 earned runs in 5 innings of the Dodgers' 10-7 victory over the Athletics. Clayton Kershaw was supposed to start that game, but he was scratched with a sore right hip. Bolsinger admitted to Alex Shultz of the Los Angeles Times the sudden change might have affected his performance. "You have a routine that you've been working on this whole year, and when you get thrown off like that, I guess you kind of have to learn to adjust," Bolsinger said. "And maybe me personally, I didn't adjust as well as I should've."

• Former Arkansas Razorbacks pitcher Nolan Sanburn, who was placed on the disabled list by the Birmingham Barons (AA White Sox) on July 16, has suffered a recurrence of the shoulder issues that put him on the DL earlier this season. Sanburn was placed on the disabled list on June 2 with shoulder tightness and was activated on July 8, only to go back on the list eight days later. "He's with the team and does all of his training, but he hasn't thrown in the bullpen since his last outing [on July 15]," Birmingham radio broadcaster Curt Bloom said.

• Former Arkansas Razorbacks pitcher Barrett Astin was placed on the temporarily inactive list by the Pensacaola (Fla.) Blue Wahoos (AA Reds) on Monday, but he was placed back on the active roster Saturday and was expected to start against the Chattanooga (Tenn.) Lookouts (AA Twins). Team officials said Astin was placed on the list because of "a family matter," but did not offer any more specifics.

• Pitcher Zach Cates (Conway) was released by the Tennessee Smokies (AA Cubs) on Friday. Cates had a 2-4 record with a 5.30 ERA in 14 appearance with the Smokies after being promoted from high-A Myrtle Beach, Fla., on June 25. He allowed 18 runs -- 11 earned -- on 19 hits with 22 walks and 15 strikeouts. Cates had gone 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 2 saves in 12 appearances with Myrtle Beach.
