Mountain Home man fired handgun in home, deputies say

A rural Mountain Home man is accused of firing a handgun inside a house with his wife and three children inside, the Baxter County sheriff’s office said Monday.

Christopher Lee West, 40, was arrested on felony charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor late Sunday.

Deputies responded to a disturbance call about 9:44 p.m. on Wilderness Point Road, the sheriff’s office said. The caller indicated a man was inside the house firing a gun while others were inside, and a 911 operator could hear gunshots over the phone, authorities said.

When deputies arrived, they found West in the front yard, and his wife told them he had been firing a gun and had pointed it at her and that three children were inside the home, sheriff’s officials said.

Authorities found the handgun outside in a chair, collected several casings that were scattered through the house, and saw what appeared to be bullet holes in the wall, deputies said.

West was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. He is being held in the Baxter County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond and will appear in circuit court Thursday, authorities said.
