Ballet prep auditions

Ballet Arkansas will hold auditions for its Preparatory Program, for dancers age 12-18 who are seriously considering choosing ballet as a career, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Shuffles and Ballet II Studio, 1521 Merrill Drive, Little Rock.

There is a $15 audition fee. Director Kimberly Nygren Cox, a professional ballet dancer for 14 years with Milwaukee Ballet and the Louisville Ballet, will answer questions at a parent-student meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the studio.

The program is designed to supplement and accelerate students' ballet training while letting them experience a professional company atmosphere. The 10 dancers will train, rehearse and perform with Ballet Arkansas company members and participate in other performances and appearances throughout the year.

Mystery auditions

Fort Smith Little Theatre, 401 N. Sixth St., Fort Smith, will hold open auditions for ​Curtain Up on Murder by Bettine Manktelow, 7 p.m. Monday and Aug. 11. Director Rikkee Workman Black will cast three men, age 28-70, and five women, 18-55, from cold readings from the script.

This British comedy-mystery is a play within a play set in a small community theater in which the amateur actors rehearse while a storm rages, doors mysteriously lock, a ghost passes across the stage and an assistant stage manager turns up dead.
