According to reports, a sheriff's deputy spotted 64-year-old Troy Rupe lying face down in his cell about 4:50 a.m. The deputy issued a medical emergency alert.

A nurse responded to the cell and worked on Rupe, the report states. He was then transported to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Rupe was pronounced dead at 5:49 a.m.

The sheriff's office believes Rupe died from natural causes, spokesman Capt. Carl Minden said in a written release. The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office, and an exact cause of death had not been determined Monday.

Rupe, of Star City, was being held on charges of failure to appear and a parole violation. He was arrested and booked into Pulaski County jail on June 19, according to reports.
