Showers, thunderstorms forecast for north, central Arkansas

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast for parts of north and central Arkansas on Tuesday night as an upper-level system approaches from the west.

The chances of severe weather, however, will be minimal, according to the National Weather Service.

More storms are expected for the same area Wednesday evening and night, and some could be strong, primarily in north Arkansas, forecasters said.

Rain chances will diminish Thursday as the storm system shifts east of the area, the weather service said.

Later this week and into the weekend, conditions will turn hot and humid as high pressure strengthens over the region, pushing temperatures into the 90s and to 100 in some spots. Afternoon heat indexes will likely again reach 105 degrees across much of central and south Arkansas.
