Blytheville man dies after vehicle flips

A single-vehicle wreck in Mississippi County on Tuesday afternoon left a Blytheville man dead, authorities said.

A 2001 Ford was traveling west on Arkansas 140 west of Arkansas 136 in Etowah about 1:50 p.m. when it left the highway, hit a driveway and flipped, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report. The weather was clear and the road dry at the time, the report states.

Lavern Holbrooks, 87, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead on the scene by Mississippi County Deputy Coroner Tracy Seaton, state police said. The vehicle’s driver, Vivian Royer, 58, of Blytheville, was injured and taken to The Med in Memphis, according to the report. Her medical condition wasn’t immediately available Wednesday morning.

Holbrooks’ death was the 290th to occur on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary state police figures.
