ROGERS -- A Centerton man was arrested just outside Rogers after Benton County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered him asleep in an idling car.

Brandon Alan Hobson, 28, of 541 Desaro Court was arrested and booked into jail Sunday in connection with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor counts of failure to register a vehicle, driving while intoxicated and driving while licence canceled, suspended or revoked.

Deputies were called to 11511 Indian Hills Boulevard at 11:08 p.m. Saturday after a person reported the car, according to a probable cause affidavit. When they arrived, the motor was running, the light inside the car was on and music was playing, but Hobson appeared to be asleep, according to the report.

Deputies woke Hobson by knocking on the car and as he got out a syringe fell to the ground. A search of his car turned up a suitcase with plastic bags of white crystal-like substances that would later weigh in at 50 grams, spoons, syringes, scales, two glass pipes believed to be associated with methamphetamine, three pills believed to be OxyContin and four believed to be morphine, according to the preliminary report. The items will be sent to the state Crime Laboratory for testing, according to the report.

One of the spoons field-tested positive for methamphetamine residue, according to the report.

Hobson told a deputy the substance in the suitcase was to be added to pure methamphetamine before its sale, according to the report. He said only the pills were his, that he'd been out to visit a friend but stopped and injected himself with OxyContin. It was daylight when he stopped the car, Hobson told deputies. He guessed he'd stopped about 7:30 p.m. The car was his and had been purchased months ago, he told deputies, but he hadn't registered it.

The car was towed to the Sheriff's Office, according to the report. Hobson was taken for a blood sample test by deputies, according to the report.

He was being held Tuesday on a $5,000 bond.
