Deputies find injured baby; two arrested

The Saline County sheriff's office said Tuesday that two people have been arrested on child-abuse charges after an infant in Mabelvale was found with burns.

Deputies from the Saline County sheriff's office went to a home on Jeanne Drive in Mabelvale around 6:30 p.m. Monday on a report of a disturbance involving a weapon, according to a release from the office. Anthony Pilkington, 34, of Mabelvale was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and violation of an order of protection.

While on the scene, deputies noticed an infant had "fresh and significant burns to his neck and chest," the release said. The child's mother, Destiny Walker of Mabelvale, was interviewed by detectives from the sheriff's office and an investigator from the Arkansas State Police.

Walker, 21, was arrested on charges of permitting child abuse and endangering the welfare of a minor in the third degree. She's expected to make an initial court appearance today.

Pilkington also was charged with first-degree domestic battering, endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree and endangering the welfare of a minor in the third degree. He also is expected in court today.

The child was treated for the burns and taken into custody by the state Department of Human Services.
