Early voting starts in Southside races

SOUTHSIDE -- Voters in the recently incorporated Independence County town of Southside began voting for city officials Tuesday, as early voting started.

The town of 1,400 incorporated Oct. 29, 2014, to avoid an annexation bid by neighboring Batesville, which indicated that it wanted the area because of its potential for growth.

Sheri Cavaness and Ray Bowman are vying for the mayor's position, and there are races for three City Council positions, the city marshal and the city recorder.

Early voting will be held at the city's food pantry building on Scott Drive until Monday. The election is Tuesday.
