Pope County crash kills Georgia man, injures 2

An out-of-state man was killed and two other people injured in a two-vehicle accident in Pope County early Thursday, according to Arkansas State Police.

James Soriano, 21, of Whittier, Calif., was traveling east on Interstate 40 when he stopped on the south shoulder near Atkins.

The driver of a second eastbound vehicle, an injured minor whose age was not provided, left the interstate and struck the rear of Soriano's vehicle, causing the minor's vehicle to overturn.

Blake A. Zeledon, 23, of Newnan, Ga., died as a passenger in the minor's vehicle. Another passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Alyssa M. Ressis, of Newman, Ga., suffered injuries.

The minor driver and Ressis were taken to St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville for medical treatment.

Soriano and a passenger in his car, 26-year-old Thomas E. Faley, of Carlsbad, Calif., did not suffer injuries.

State police described road and weather conditions as clear at the time of the accident.

Zeledon's death was the 298th to occur on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary state police figures.
