Where's the outrage? A theory

There ought to be a rule against criticizing Hillary Clinton in the public prints, just as there is against shooting sitting ducks. It's not sportsmanlike. There's no challenge to it. And if you've missed her current scandal, don't fret. Another one will be along in a minute.

It's easy to lose track. One day Our Lady of Benghazi is having her cover story blown, the next she's playing games with congressional subpoenas, the next it's revealed that her private email account is full of classified material or stuff that should be . . . . And always, always she and grasping Hubby have their hands out for still more gifts from every tinpot dictator and corrupt corporation in the undeveloped world. No doubt the next scandal du jour is still hatching. But watch this space if you can work up the interest.

"Where's the outrage?" poor Bob Dole used to wonder when he was running against our Teflon First Couple sometime in the 1990s. The answer: It had been exhausted long before. For nothing is more boring than continuous scandal. Interest fades. Call it the Ho Hum factor. When the news isn't news, who cares?

The secret to concocting a good political scandal, like writing a good English murder mystery, is that the suspect appear to be a respectable citizen beyond reproach--at first. But in Hillary Clinton's case, there's no there there, just repeat performances of the same old dodgy show. Who can care?
