What's to love: Grow vegetables year-round with this counter-top hydroponic (soil-less) system.
What does it do: This compact system, which comes in a chalkboard, glossy white or wood finish, is the right size for a counter top (16 inches long, 10 inches high and 6 inches wide) and will look good on it. It has three pots which fit in the top tray that are filled with a clay-pellet growing medium; water and nutrients are in the reservoir below. A preprogrammed timer can be set so that whether starting seeds or growing tomatoes, plants get the right amount of water, oxygen and nutrients at the appropriate time. The planter sells for $139.

What's to love: An easy way to upgrade recessed lights with decorative covers.
What does it do: Using a patented magnetic design, the cover attaches to recessed light's existing trim to create a new look. The covers come in white, chrome and black and in square and round shapes in 5- and 8-inch sizes. They fit over most 3- to 5-inch existing trim. They can be bought in six-packs for $90 for the 5-inch size or $100 for the 8-inch size.
