First baseman Eric Fisher (Arkansas Razorbacks) was promoted to the Class A Greensboro (N.C.) Grasshoppers from the short-A Batavia (N.Y.) Muckdogs on Aug. 2. Fisher hit .246 in 32 games for Batavia with 28 hits, inlcuding 1 home run, 10 runs scored and 11 RBI. He was 1 for 11 in his first three games with Greensboro.
Former Arkansas Razorbacks Brett Eibner and Bobby Wernes earned player of the month honors in July. Eibner hit .380 with 7 home runs and 25 RBI with the Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA Royals). Wernes was named the player of the month for the Tri-City Valleycats (short-A Astros) by HouseofHouston.com, an Astros blog site. Wernes had a .341 batting average and a .430 on-base percentage with 13 runs scored, 12 RBI and 3 stolen bases.
“Wernes was the Astros’ 30th round pick and he hasn’t stopped hitting since joining the organization. While he has only two doubles, the .430 OBP can play anywhere,” the blog said.
Pitcher Andy Ferguson (Benton/Arkansas State) was activated from the disabled list by the Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA Royals) on Aug. 3 and started that night against the Nashville (Tenn.) Sounds (AAA Athletics). Ferguson pitched 3 innings, allowing 1 hit with 5 strikeouts.
Pitcher Ryne Stanek (Arkansas Razorbacks) was activated from the disabled list by the Montgomery (Ala.) Biscuits (AA Rays) on Thursday. Stanek started against the Mississippi Braves (AA Braves) on Thursday night, allowing 2 hits with 3 strikeouts in 2 innings.
