Rumba, flamingos

Fundraiser beats drum for Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival

HOT SPRINGS -- Pink plastic flamingos dotted the yard and lined the walkway to the home of Erma and Ray Steelsmith on Aug. 1, marking the site of Havana Nights, a fundraiser for the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival.

Some of the guests dressed for the theme -- several in traditional guayabera shirts or ruffled rumba shirts and a couple dressed as Carmen Miranda. About 100 partygoers were entertained by singer Jason Flores while they dined on Cuban sandwiches, citrus shrimp and roasted corn and black bean salsa catered by Next Level BBQ and Jill Blanchard Catering.

The party continued outside, where there was a bar, several guest tables on the patio and a photo booth featuring film reels and the festival logo.

The fundraiser was hosted by the Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute Board of Directors and the Red Carpet Donor Circle. The 24th annual film festival takes place Oct. 9-18 at the Arlington Hotel.
