COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Small forward Doobie Jenkins orally committed to Arkansas during his official visit Saturday evening and will be able to play for the Hogs this season.

Jenkins, 6-7, 215 pounds, played for Naples (Fla.) First Baptist Academy and had scholarship offers from Chattanooga, The Citadel, Kennesaw State, Richmond, Tennessee Tech and Virginia Military.

He had planned attend a prep school and be a 2016 prospect, but that all changed few weeks ago when Arkansas saw him play for his summer team, Florida-based Team Speights, and Coach Mike Anderson extended a scholarship offer.

"I really like the plans Coach Anderson has for the team," said Jenkins, who was given the nickname Doobie by his parents at an early age. "I also like direction the program is going, and another important thing to me is I wanted it to feel like I was at home wherever I went and Coach Anderson and his family really made it feel that way."

Jenkins, who averaged 14.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals a game this past season, is expected to be a swingman at Arkansas. He arrived in Fayetteville on Friday with his father Lorenzo Jenkins Sr.

"He really liked it," Jenkins said. "He felt like it was the right fit for me and it was up to me to make the decision."

Jenkins also received interest from Texas A&M, Fresno State, San Diego and others.
