Preseason Party

Whole passel of Hogs fans gather to gear up for kickoff

For the last few years it was Football 101 and for females, but Justin Acri, radio show host of the sports centric The Buzz, said it didn't go over well -- not with the women, but the men, who wanted in on the preseason action.

So KABZ-FM, 103.7, opened it up to everyone, moved it to Noah's Event Center in far west Little Rock, and renamed it, simply, the Preseason Party.

Because you can't officially begin Arkansas Razorbacks football too early.

"We'll see how many people show up, maybe so," Acri said. "If we don't pack the house, maybe so."

The period between spring practice/prognosticating and fall football "has been shortened more and more with SEC Media Days and SEC meetings, and we cover all that closely." Meanwhile, "we kind of ramp up into full football mode Aug. 1 and camp gets going." So July 30 was a good day for the gathering, which featured a lot of former Razorbacks -- J.J. Meadors, David Bazzel, Marcus Monk, D.J. Williams, Matt Jones, Ron Calcagni, Clint Stoerner, Rickey Williams, Reggie Swinton to name a few -- and Razorbacks pundits like Wally Hall, Roger Scott and Randy Rainwater.
