Travs lose 2-run lead, game in 10th

David Washington's sacrifice fly capped a three-run 10th inning, and the host Springfield Cardinals came from two runs down to post an 8-7 victory over the Arkansas Travelers on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep and take over sole possession of first place in the Texas League North.

Washington's sacrifice fly off Kyle Winkler scored Anthony Garcia with the winning run to finish the game-winning rally in front of an announced crowd of 3,768 at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.

The Travelers took a 7-5 lead in the top of the 10th when Blake Gailen hit a two-run home run off Corey Baker to score Raywilly Gomez, who singled with one out.

The Cardinals tied the game 7-7 in the bottom of the 10th when Jonathan Rodriguez doubled down the left-field to score Charlie Tilson and Aledmys Diaz. The hit came off Greg Mahle (2-2), who took the loss, allowing 3 runs on 1 hit in 1 1/3 innings.

Mahle struck out Alberto Rosario to open the 10th, but Tilson reached on a throwing error by third baseman Brian Hernandez. Diaz, who pinch hit for Mike O'Neill, bunted for a hit and Garcia walked to load the bases.

The Travelers trailed 5-4 going into the eighth inning, but forced extra innings when Hernandez's bases-loaded groundout to shortstop Matt Williams scored Ruben Sosa to tie the game 5-5. Rueben Sosa led off the inning with a double. Gomez and Blake Gailen walked to load the bases.

The Cardinals trailed 4-2 going into the seventh, but took a 5-4 lead when Washington hit a two-run home run off Kyle McGowin. Springfield took the lead when Patrick Wisdom singled and moved to second on a passed ball. Wisdom advanced to third on Williams' bunt single,and he scored when Rosario grounded into a double play.

The Travelers turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead in the second. Drew Maggi doubled to left to score Hernandez. Anthony Bemboom doubled to right to score Wade Hinkle and Maggi. Sosa singled up the middle to score Bemboom.

The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the first when Garcia doubled down the left-field line to score Tilson and O'Neill.
