ChildCare Aware Open House

CONWAY — The ChildCare Aware Resource Center, 2215 E. Oak St., will have an open house from 4:30-6:30 p.m. ChildCare Aware of North Central Arkansas is a regional child care resource and referral program that provides referrals to parents seeking child care options through a database of licensed and registered child care facilities. The staff offers provider education and training; helps recruit providers to meet community needs; and provides technical assistance to present and prospective providers. The Conway Regional Women’s Council has provided ChildCare Aware with 91 nutrition education modules to be used by child care teachers to promote good eating habits in children. Sacred Heart Open House

MORRILTON — Sacred Heart Catholic School will hold an open house for kindergarten through the 12th grade at 6 p.m., beginning at the church, with classroom visits to follow. Classes will officially begin Monday.

Maumelle AARP Chapter Meeting

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle AARP Chapter will meet at 6 p.m. at the Maumelle Senior Wellness Center. The Nash Law Firm will provide the program and a meal for members and guests. Nonperishable food items for the Hope Alliance Food Pantry will be collected at the meeting or may be taken to the Senior Center prior to the meeting. Donations of school supplies for area schoolchildren will be accepted at the meeting. All who are 50 or older are welcome to attend. Rayovac FLW Series Central Division Finale

RUSSELLVILLE — The Rayovac FLW Series will make its final stop of 2015 in the Central Division at Lake Dardanelle. Anglers will take off from the Lake Dardanelle State Park ramp, 2428 Marina Road, at 6:30 a.m. each day. Weigh-in on days 1 and 2 will be at 2:30 p.m. at the marina, and on day 3 at 3 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter, 2409 E. Main St. Pros will fish for a top award of $40,000, as well as points to qualify to fish in the Rayovac FLW Series Championship on Oct. 29-31 on the Ohio River in Paducah, Kentucky. Summer Film Series

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Library continues its Summer Film Series, featuring free films that cover a wide variety of genres and will begin at 8 p.m. Moviegoers are welcome to bring snacks and drinks. The series is hosted by Mark Lager, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing student at the University of Central Arkansas. The schedule includes today, Lawrence of Arabia; Friday, Once Upon a Time in the West; Sunday, The Hired Hand; Tuesday, The Passenger; and Wednesday, Paris, Texas.

Spaghetti Supper and Bake Sale

ST. VINCENT — Knights of Columbus Council 10908 in St. Vincent will hold its annual spaghetti and meatball supper from 5-8 p.m. Green beans, coleslaw and dessert will also be served. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12 . Children 4 and younger may eat free. Takeout meals will be available for $10 each. Ships of War Presentation

CONWAY — John Lambert, the author of USS Independence CVL-22: A War Diary of the Nation’s First Dedicated Night Carrier, will present Ships of War at 2 p.m. at the Faulkner County Library. Lambert will discuss the history of this fast aircraft carrier during its service and following its decommission, including the story of the ship and her aviators in action against the Japanese Empire in the Philippines, Okinawa, Indochina and onward to the waters off Japan. CONWAY — The Conway AARP Chapter will meet at the the Ola and John Hawks Wellness and Activity Center, 705 E. Siebermorgen Road. Cherokee Bingo

CONWAY — Cherokee Bingo begins at 6:15 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at Helton’s Wrecker Service/U-Haul, 710 S. Harkrider St. All proceeds go to the Helton-Osburn-Spencer Scholarship Fund at the University of Central Arkansas.

Life Choices Gala

CONWAY — Life Choices, a pregnancy resource center in downtown Conway, will host its annual fundraising gala, titled Celebrating 35 Years of Life, on Sept. 12 at the Conway Expo Center. The featured speakers will be Alan and Lisa Robertson of A&E’s Duck Dynasty. The event will be catered by D&L Catering and will feature a live auction, as well as a ministry update. OktoberFest in Fairfield Bay

FAIRFIELD BAY — The two-day OktoberFest, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 9, with local arts and crafts offered for sale until 6 p.m. German food, music and dance will round out the day’s events. On Oct. 10, the festival will open at 9 a.m. and will feature Thunder in the Bay, a motorcycle rally sponsored by the Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a Volkswagen Show and Shine until 5 p.m.; and an OktoberFest celebration and dance, with an oom-pah-pah band playing from 7-10 p.m. The city’s sixth annual StoryFest, suitable for all ages, will also be held Oct. 10 and feature Sean Buvala and Minton Sparks. Morning storyteller sessions will begin at 9:30, and afternoon sessions at 1:30. All performances will be at the Fairfield Bay Conference and Visitor Center.
