Teen charged in Conway couple's deaths pleads not guilty

CONWAY — A 17-year-old boy charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of a Conway couple pleaded not guilty Friday.

Hunter Drexler of Clinton was in Faulkner County Circuit Court, where his attorney entered the plea on his client's behalf.

Drexler is jailed without bail and was quiet throughout most of the proceedings Friday. He was wearing jail garb and was handcuffed and shackled when his case came before Judge Troy Braswell.

Braswell scheduled a status hearing for Sept. 15.

Drexler and 14-year-old Justin Staton of Conway are charged as adults in the July 21 deaths of Justin's guardians, Robert and Patricia Cogdell, both 66.

Staton is to appear in circuit court Aug. 25.
