Illustrating her talent

Works of Pine Bluff native Sally Nixon in Thea Foundation spotlight

Illustrator Sally Nixon's art grabbed all the focus Aug. 7 as part of the Thea Foundation's program The Art Department. The quarterly event geared toward young professionals features up-and-coming Arkansas artists and musicians, and Nixon is the spotlight artist through the end of August.

The debut of Nixon's illustrations included a chance to meet the Pine Bluff native and win one of her pieces. There was music by the Funkanites; beer by a new brewer coming soon to Little Rock, Asana Alehouse; and heavy hors d'oeuvres by Ben E. Keith.

The artist is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, earning a bachelor's degree in illustration. She recently published her first book, The Inevitability of Spiders and Flies, and her work can be seen in publications throughout Arkansas, such as Arkansas Life, Little Rock Family and Arkansas Money & Politics.

This was the eighth installment of The Art Department, which has a mission to engage young arts patrons and to help cultivate an active community of arts-focused young professionals in central Arkansas' arts scene.
