Quarterbacks sharp in UCA scrimmage

CONWAY — Senior quarterback Taylor Reed threw two touchdown passes in Central Arkansas’ first scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Estes Stadium.

Reed threw an 11-yard scoring pass to junior receiver Jatavious Wilson and a 25-yard pass to sophomore Brandon Cox.

Sophomore Hayden Hildebrand also threw two touchdown passes, completing a 23-yard pass to Cox and a 43-yard scoring pass to junior Jacquez McMillan. Freshman Kolton Harfield added a 15-yard touchdown pass to junior Brady Moore.

The Bears also got rushing touchdowns from senior Blake Veasley (40 yards) and junior Antwon Wells (4 yards).

“I thought [the quarterbacks] did a good job of getting the ball in the play-makers’ hands,” UCA Coach Steve Campbell said. “I like the way Taylor and Hayden ran the offense, and some of those young guys showed some stuff.

“I was pleased with the quarterbacks. I thought they protected the football well for the most part and made good decisions on when to pull it down, when to get rid of it and when to throw it away.”

Senior Jace Denker and freshman Matt Cummins each made 52-yard field goals.

Defensively, senior cornerback Dillion Winfrey had the only interception of the scrimmage.

UCA opens the season Sept. 3 at Samford.
