Kansas man drowns in Buffalo National River

A Kansas man drowned in the Buffalo National River on Sunday afternoon, the National Park Service said Monday.

According to a statement, 25-year-old Ravi Teja Reddy Yemalla of Overland Park, Kan., disappeared after falling into a deep underwater hole upstream from the U.S. 65 bridge about 4 p.m. Sunday.

Yemalla's friends told authorities that he did not know how to swim.

Nearby floaters searched for Yemalla for about 10 minutes before finding his body, according to the statement.

Buffalo National River rangers and Searcy County first responders tried to revive Yemalla for about 45 minutes.
