Cherry Valley man dies in crop duster crash

A Cherry Valley man died Tuesday morning after his crop duster clipped a telephone pole in Woodruff County, county authorities said.

Chad Powell, 34, was flying in an AT-802 Air Tractor about 11:10 a.m. Tuesday over a field near Arkansas 17 and County Road 644 when his aircraft clipped the pole and traveled a "couple miles" before crashing in a wooded area, according to the Woodruff County sheriff's office.

Woodruff County Sheriff Phil Reynolds said Powell was spraying insecticides on beans in the area.

The aircraft remains at the scene and a Federal Aviation Administration investigation is ongoing, he said.
