Missing Texarkana inmate located

UPDATE

A Arkansas Department of Corrections work-release inmate who left his assigned job site during his lunch break on Tuesday was located at an apartment complex in Hope at 7:23 p.m.and taken into custody.

Torey Phillips, 31, is being taken to the Ouachita River Correctional Unit, where he will be held in a maximum-security cell for the night.

The Arkansas Department of Correction is searching for a Texarkana work-release inmate who walked off his job site during a lunch break Tuesday.

Torey Phillips, 31, clocked out at Mr. Speedy Car Care, 4119 N. State Line Ave. in Texarkana, Texas, about 12:20 p.m.

Instead of going to the break room for lunch, Phillips is believed to have left the auto shop, according to a statement.

Authorities said his absence was noticed about 12:25 p.m. when an officer arrived to check the inmates working at Mr. Speedy.

The officer, according to the statement, asked employees about Phillips' whereabouts.

Witnesses told authorities that he may have gotten into a gold Chevrolet Cavalier driven by another person.

Phillips is believed to be in possession of a cellphone that he reportedly stole from another employee.

Sentenced to 15 years on the manufacturing, delivery and possession of a controlled substance, Phillips is an inmate at the Texarkana Regional Correction Center.

He is described as a black male who is 6 feet tall, weighing 276 pounds.
