Vehicle hits Springdale school bus

Two accidents involve Springdale school buses on first day of school

SPRINGDALE -- A school bus with students on board was hit head-on Monday by another vehicle.

The accident happened on Sonora Road after students finished their first day of school, said Rick Schaeffer, communications director for the Springdale School District. There was a spurt of rainy weather and a vehicle traveling toward the bus hit the bus head-on.

Students on the bus were from Sonora and Monitor elementary schools, Schaeffer said. No students were taken to hospitals.

"There were bumps and bruises," he said. "There were no severe injuries."

Central EMS treated some students on scene, Schaeffer said. Parents picked up some students, while another bus took other students home.

Schaeffer said he didn't know what happened to the driver of the vehicle that hit the bus.

There was another two-vehicle accident involving a school bus Monday afternoon, according to call information from the Springdale Police Department. The Springdale School District owns the bus. The accident occurred at the intersection of Shiloh Street and Oak Avenue.

There were students on that bus, according to the call information. An ambulance was not dispatched to the accident, said Mike Peters, acting police chief.
