Woman pulled from Norfork Lake likely drowned, sheriff says

A Mountain Home woman who was unresponsive when she was pulled from Norfork Lake on Monday evening is believed to have drowned while swimming there, authorities said.

The Baxter County sheriff's office said the woman — identified as 35-year-old Cassandra Lynn Gordon — had been with friends at Cranfield Park on the lake and was last seen standing in the water near a raft.

Sheriff John Montgomery said in a statement that Gordon was found a short time later underwater in a 5-foot-deep part of the lake some 15 feet from the bank.

Emergency crews were called shortly before 6 p.m. Montgomery said a person there was attempting CPR when emergency crews arrived, but efforts to revive Gordon were unsuccessful. She died at the scene.

Gordon's body was sent to the Arkansas Crime Laboratory for an autopsy, the statement said.
