Newcomb helps Travs break four-game skid

The Arkansas Travelers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks on Wednesday night at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Arkansas had not won since beating the Hooks on Thursday night at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, but it got a solid pitching performance from Sean Newcomb.

Newcomb (2-0) allowed 1 run and struck out 8 in 5 innings. He scattered four hits and walked three. Greg Mahle earned his 13th save of the season for the Travs.

Chad Hinshaw led the Travs offensively, going 3 for 5. Ruben Sosa was 2 for 4 and scored 2 runs. Anthony Bemboom had a hit and drove in two runs.

The Travs trailed 1-0 entering the third inning, but took a 2-1 lead on RBI singles from Hinshaw and Brian Hernandez. Arkansas made it 3-1 in the sixth when Bemboom hit a run-scoring single to bring Sosa home and added an insurance run in the eighth when Sosa scored on Bemboom's groundout.

Colin Moran went 3 for 4 to lead Corpus Christi.

NATURALS 12, MISSIONS 2

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals pounded out 20 hits in a rout of the San Antonio Missions at Wolff Municipal Stadium in San Antonio.

Northwest Arkansas scored six runs in the first, four in the third and two more in the eighth.

Alex Liddi, Raul Mondesi and Parker Morin all had four hits apiece. Bubba Starling went 3 for 4 and scored 3 runs. Lane Adams added a two-run home run.

Naturals starter Jonathan Dziedzic (9-6) allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings, struck out 1 and walked 2.

Diego Goris led the Missions offensively, going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
