Teen driver killed in Hot Spring County wreck

A teenage driver was killed Wednesday night when his pickup veered off a Hot Spring County highway and hit a tree, authorities said.

Hot Spring County Coroner Ernest Cox identified the driver as 17-year-old Glen-Micheal Thorton of Leola.

An Arkansas State Police report did not include Thorton's name because he is a minor, but it said a 2001 Ford pickup was south on Arkansas 9 in Harp, which is just south of Malvern, when it veered off the road in a curve, overturned and hit a tree. It happened about 9:30 p.m.

Cox said Thorton was dead in the vehicle when crews arrived.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The death was the 324th in a traffic crash so far this year in Arkansas, according to preliminary figures.
