A 27-year-old driver is accused of being intoxicated when he hit a 77-year-old man with his car Wednesday night, causing injuries that proved fatal.

The Hot Springs Sentinel Record reported Friday that James Lee Goff was identified by police as the driver of a vehicle that hit William Baker of Malvern on Wednesday night in Hot Springs in a crosswalk near Oaklawn Racing and Gaming.

Baker later died from his injuries. Police say a blood-alcohol test conducted at the Garland County jail revealed Goff had an intoxication level of 0.318, which is nearly four times the legal limit for driving, the newspaper reported.

Goff remained in jail Friday morning with bail set at $61,000. In addition to the negligent homicide charge, he is also charged with driving while intoxicated and violating a pedestrian's right of way.
