Lt. Scott Lewis, public information officer with the department, declined Friday to release the name of the 17-year-old gunman or the 16-year-old victim.

The victim was in stable condition Thursday at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale, said Mike Peters, acting police chief. However Lewis declined Friday to give an update on the boy's condition, saying in the text message police don't "give out medical info."

Police used witness statements to determine the incident was gang related, according to an update on the department's Facebook page.

Police identified the teen shooter within an hour of the incident with the help of witnesses, Lewis said Thursday. He was arrested in Lowell at about 7 p.m. in connection with felony first-degree attempted murder and possession of a handgun by a minor or possession of a gun on school property.

He was being held in juvenile detention.

There will be a hearing Monday to determine if the 17-year-old will be charged as an adult, Lewis said Friday. The incident is still under investigation.

The Facebook post also mentioned shooting at 1101 N. Pleasant St. early Aug. 16 in which two people were wounded. The post identified one victim as David Madison, 32. It identified the other victim as a juvenile male, and stated police will not release information about him.

One man was grazed by gunfire and another hospitalized with three bullet wounds to his legs, according to a news release from the Springdale police.

The update on Facebook states police "cannot say with complete certainty the [Aug. 16] shooting was gang related." It did state, however, the juvenile male has gang history and Madison doesn't.

The case remains under investigation.
