Interchange work to close I-49 lanes

Work to build an interchange connecting Interstate 49 to the new U.S. 412 northern bypass in Northwest Arkansas will require overnight lane closures on I-49 for four nights beginning Tuesday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Installation of a precast barrier wall along northbound and southbound I-49 from north of Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale to south of Arkansas 264 will require closing lanes within the work zone from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly through Saturday, weather permitting.

Northbound I-49 will be reduced to one lane Tuesday night and southbound I-49 will be reduced to one lane Wednesday night, the department said. The outside lanes in both directions will be closed Thursday and Friday nights.

When completed, the $100.6 million bypass project will extend 4 miles from I-49 to Arkansas 112 and provide an east-west route north of the Springdale metropolitan area, the department said.
