MUSKOGEE, Okla. — A company is considering alternate routes for a proposed $2 billion transmission line that would carry wind-generated electricity from Oklahoma to Tennessee after concerns by property owners and state officials.
The Muskogee Phoenix reported that several landowners had objected to the use of eminent domain to secure access and easements for the project.
Wildlife officials in Arkansas and Oklahoma, along with some municipalities, cited concerns about sensitive watershed areas and wildlife habitats that could be disrupted by construction if precautions weren't taken.
The project has been in the works since 2010 and is being proposed by Clean Line Energy Partners of Houston.
Company representatives said the alternate routes suggested as part of a final environmental impact statement would avoid areas where potential conflicts exist.
