Shakera Richards, 21, made her first appearance in front of Circuit Judge Hamilton Singleton on Monday in the death of her 3-month-old baby.

Ouachita Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Phillip Stone made a recommendation that Richard's bail be set at $250,000. Singleton accepted the recommendation, and Richards was led back to a cell.

Camden Police Chief Bo Woody said an ambulance responded to Richards' home on Aug. 19 after she called 911 regarding injuries to her child. The child was taken to Ouachita County Medical Center before being transported to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

Woody said Children's Hospital officials called Camden police to inform them that the child's injuries were "really major and significant."

"[I] can't get into it about all of the injuries to the baby, but her [Richards'] story doesn't support the injuries," Woody said. "That's what led the investigators to pursue charges for murder."

An affidavit for Richards' arrest was issued, and she was taken into custody Saturday in Little Rock.
