Campus-boss search group has new chief

The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville's associate vice chancellor for university relations will now head the search committee for a new campus leader.

The University of Arkansas System made the announcement Thursday, adding that Laura Jacobs will start the role Tuesday. Jacobs is replacing Howard Brill, a UA Fayetteville law professor who was recently appointed as chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court. Brill will be sworn in as chief justice in September.

He will remain on the 17-member panel that is helping to find a replacement for former UA Fayetteville Chancellor G. David Gearhart, who retired from the post July 30 after about seven years at the helm of the university. So far, UA System said 15 have applied for the chancellor's position.

"I am very excited by the work of the committee to date and look forward, under Laura's leadership, to continuing the progress to identify the next Chancellor for the University of Arkansas," UA System President Donald Bobbitt said in an email to the search committee Thursday.

The committee is working with a Miramar Beach, Fla.-based search firm, Greenwood/Asher and Associates Inc., to identify candidates for the position. The firm is still accepting applications, nominations and recommendations.
