Overnight lane closures set in NLR

Bridge removal in North Little Rock will require overnight lane closures next week, state Highway and Transportation Department officials said.

Crews will remove the old Norman Road Bridge, above Interstate 40, after the new bridge opens to traffic Monday.

The work will require alternately closing eastbound and westbound lanes of I-40 between mile markers 147 and 148, officials said.

The closures will occur between 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with intermittent traffic stops on I-40 between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., while work is performed over the travel lanes, officials said. Electronic message boards and advance warning signs will be implemented in the area.

The work is part of a project, which extends east from Arkansas 365 to Interstate 430, to widen 5.1 miles of I-40 to three lanes in each direction.
