Utility line repairman better, still in hospital

A North Little Rock police report released Thursday identifies a contract worker who was shocked by an electrical line and critically injured Wednesday.

Tyler Rush, 23, remained hospitalized at UAMS Medical Center on Thursday. His condition had improved, according to a co-worker who spoke to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Further details about his condition were unavailable.

The report states that Rush is employed by East Bay Electric and was working with a crew from Alabama.

Officers were called at 11:14 a.m. to 13011 Willow Beach Road, where they found Rush unconscious, the report states. A witness told police that Rush had been in an elevated basket working on a North Little Rock Electric Department line. A support rail collapsed, and the electric line fell onto Rush and shocked him, according to the report.

Rush had regained consciousness when the North Little Rock Fire Department arrived at the scene. Fire Marshal John Pflasterer said the 12,000-volt electrical line appeared to have burned 20 percent of Rush's upper body.

The accident knocked out electrical power in the Faulkner Lake Road area. Most utility customers had service restored late Wednesday.
