Solemn Old Judge Days

MAMMOTH SPRING — The 26th Solemn Old Judge Days weekend will be held Friday and Saturday, beginning with a free gospel sing at 7 p.m. Friday in the multipurpose building on the Mammoth Spring School campus. On Saturday, a 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Mammoth Spring campus of Ozarka College will start at 7:30 a.m. at Mammoth Spring State Park. A pancake breakfast will be served, starting at 6:30 a.m., by the Mammoth Spring Volunteer Fire Department at the fire station. Donations will be taken. Davidsonville Legacy Weekend

POCAHONTAS — In honor of Davidsonville Historic State Park’s creation and more than 50 years of service, activities will be held at the park during Labor Day weekend, Friday through Sept. 6. Events will include town-site tours, hikes, programs focusing on the park and its history, and free homemade ice cream. Campsites are available for the weekend. AARP Smart Driver Course

SEARCY — The PrimesTimes of White County Medical Center, now Unity Health, 3214 E. Race Ave., will host an AARP Smart Driver Course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hubach Center. Park behind the hospital off Moore Street, and use the elevator to go to the first floor. The room is chilly, so attendees may want to bring jackets. The instructor is Jerry Yates. The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members with an AARP card and $20 for nonmembers. Labor Day Weekend Concert

Lyon College Faculty Exhibition, Reception and Artists’ Talk

BATESVILLE — The Lyon College Kresge Gallery, in the historic Alphin building, has opened the 2015-2016 season with the Faculty Exhibition, featuring work from Dustyn Bork, associate professor of art, and Sarah Martin, newly appointed artist in residence. The exhibition will remain in the gallery until Sept. 18. The gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, Monday through Friday. BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Art Department will display the artwork of Nancy Dunaway through Sept. 28 in the England Center Art Gallery at ASU-Beebe. ASH FLAT — The Spring River Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a chili cook-off at the Ash Flat Eagle Fest on Sept. 12 in the Ash Flat Ballpark. Fundraiser Concert

BATESVILLE — The Ozark Foothills FilmFest will hold its annual fundraising event at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at Elizabeth’s Restaurant. Proceeds from Steppin’ Out With the Side Street Steppers will support the annual film festival and the annual T Tauri Movie Camp, a summer artist residency project offering video production workshops for kids and teens. Beatles at the Ridge Musical Festival

WALNUT RIDGE — The Beatles Symposium will kick off the Beatles at the Ridge music festival Sept. 18 and 19 in downtown Walnut Ridge. Both events are free. Beatles experts Richard Buskin and Robert Rodriguez will perform their podcast “Things We Said Today.” Bob Loveall will bring Beatles wares from his Beatles Shop in Austin, Texas. Ivor Davis, who traveled with the Beatles on their North American tour in 1964, and filmmaker Seth Swirsky, who made the movie Beatles Stories, will also speak. The Beatles Symposium will begin with displays at noon Sept. 18 in The Studio, which is on Main Street. Geocache Scavenger Hunt

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park will host a geocache scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 in the park. Participants will be provided a clue to find the first coordinates, and each set of coordinates will lead to the next set. Participants may sign up in teams of two or singly and need to bring a GPS. Digital Photography Course

OktoberFest in Fairfield Bay

FAIRFIELD BAY — OktoberFest, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 9 and run until 10 p.m. that day, with local arts and crafts offered for sale until 6 p.m. German food, music and dance will round out the first day’s events. On Oct. 10, the festival will open at 9 a.m. and will feature Thunder in the Bay, a motorcycle rally sponsored by the Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a Volkswagen Show and Shine until 5 p.m.; and an OktoberFest celebration and dance, with an oom-pah-pah band playing from 7-10 p.m. The city’s sixth annual StoryFest, suitable for all ages, will also be held Oct. 10 and feature Sean Buvala and Minton Sparks. Morning storyteller sessions will begin at 9:30, and afternoon sessions at 1:30. All performances will be at the Fairfield Bay Conference and Visitor Center.

Heber Springs Dulcimer Day
