For patients at Arkansas Children's Hospital in search of a little holiday cheer while staying at the hospital for treatment, the Christmas spirit came to them Tuesday in the form of ballet.

Six dancers from Ballet Arkansas gave a special performance of The Nutcracker in the hospital's first-floor rotunda for the patients and their families as part of what is now an annual event.

Karen Bassett, executive director of Ballet Arkansas, said the performance was an abbreviated version of The Nutcracker, though featured all of the main characters.

"We love being a part of Children's Hospital's holiday celebration," she said. "To a lot of people, getting to see The Nutcracker is part of their Christmas tradition."

Ballet Arkansas has full performances scheduled for Dec. 11-13 at the Maumelle Performing Arts Center at Maumelle High School, 100 Victory Lane.
