The Arkansas State University System announced Thursday the hiring of a new chancellor at its campus in Beebe to replace the top administrator, who is retiring after 21 years.

Karla Fisher, the vice president of academics at Butler Community College in Kansas, will take over as chancellor at ASU-Beebe on Jan. 16, the school said in a news release.

Fisher's starting salary will be $183,000, according to the release.

The school received 60 applications to replace Eugene McKay, who is retiring in January after 21 years as chancellor and almost 50 years at the school, according to the release.

Fisher has a doctorate in education administration from the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas, as well as a master's and bachelor's degree from St. Mary's University in San Antonio.

ASU-Beebe is a two-year campus of the ASU system and has 4,500 students.
