A Manila man was killed while loading soybeans into a grain bin at Wildy Family Farms on Friday, according to the Mississippi County sheriff's office.
Major Larry Robinson with the sheriff's office said the initial call came in about 11:20 a.m. of a man, later identified as 52-year-old Jeffery Brown, trapped inside the bin.
Crews from several agencies attempted for about three hours to rescue Brown from the grain bin at the farm located along County Road 69, about 3 miles west of Manila.
Robinson said Brown was moving soybeans around in the bin when they gave way beneath him, causing him to sink into the soybeans. Authorities were able to open a door to the bin at the bottom of the tank and retrieve Brown's body about 2:45 p.m., he said.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by Mississippi County coroner Mike Godsey.
Fire departments in Manila, Monette and Osceola, as well as emergency officials from Blytheville, also responded at the scene, Robinson said.
The farm was named the Arkansas Family Farm of the Year Thursday by the Farm Bureau of Arkansas.
According to a news release announcing the award, the 9,200-acre farm grows soybeans, wheat, milo and peanuts.
