Ex-caregiver convicted of adult abuse in beating of disabled resident with hanger

A former employee of a long-term care facility in Craighead County has been sentenced to 90 days in prison on one count of adult abuse, the Arkansas attorney general’s office said Thursday.

Sherri Currie, a former employee of the Jonesboro Human Development Center, beat an intellectually disabled resident with a clothes hanger, Attorney General Leslie Rutledge said in a statement.

A jury on Friday found Currie guilty of adult abuse, a class D felony, and she was sentenced to 90 days in prison and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.

“Those living in long-term care facilities, such as the Jonesboro Human Development Center, are entitled to the highest quality care,” Rutledge said in a statement.
