On Christianity

DEAR REV. GRAHAM: Why didn't God wait until now to send Jesus to earth? Then He could've used the Internet and television and things like that to spread His message. Besides that, I think it would be cool to be able to see Jesus in person!

-- Z.T.

DEAR Z.T.: I want to assure you that God doesn't do anything by accident, nor does He make mistakes. Jesus Christ came down from Heaven to earth at the exact second God planned -- and His timing is always perfect. The Bible says, "But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman" (Galatians 4:4).

I understand what you're saying, however -- and it's not wrong for you to wish Jesus was with us today and you could see Him in person (or even just by film or video). But think of the millions of people who would have died during the last two thousand years without ever hearing the good news of Christ's forgiveness and new life. Think too of the countless hospitals and orphanages and schools that never would have been built, because they were built out of love for Christ.

But listen: Jesus Christ is with us just as much today as He was 2,000 years ago. No, He isn't with us in person -- but when we give our lives to Jesus, He comes to live within us by the Holy Spirit. He forgives us and cleanses our sin, and He begins to change us from within.

In just a week we'll be celebrating Christmas -- the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. Why not celebrate it this year by asking Him to come into your life? God loves you, and you'll never be the same once you open your heart and life to Jesus.
