Sheriff: Man drowns in flooded creek north of Dover

A 31-year-old man has died in a drowning at a swollen creek in north Pope County after heavy rainfall fell in the area over the weekend, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff Shane Jones said authorities responded to the drowning on Wallace Ridge Road north of Dover about 1:45 p.m. Monday after the man was reported missing.

In a news release later in the afternoon, the sheriff's office said the man's body was located downstream from a low-water bridge where his vehicle was found.

Sheriff's deputies and the Office of Emergency Management Swift Water Rescue Team responded at the scene.

According to the release, the man's name is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
