FAYETTEVILLE -- A Springdale man known as "Joe Psycho" was sentenced to almost 10 years in federal prison Thursday for distributing methamphetamine.

Joe Chantharath, 32, was sentenced on one count of distribution of methamphetamine. Chatharath was sentenced to 116 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Tim Brooks in Fayetteville.

"We will not waver in our commitment to prosecuting individuals involved in the trafficking of illegal drugs in Northwest Arkansas and across the Western District," U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge said in a news release. "With the continued cooperation of local, state and federal law enforcement, we will work to ensure those who choose to participate in this type of illegal activity are held accountable so that Arkansans can be confident that our communities are safe."

Drug Task Force members bought 85 grams of meth from Chantharath in five buys in May.

On May 23, federal DEA agents, Rogers police and Springdale police served a search warrant at Chantharath's home. He was arrested while in possession of about 12 grams of meth, more than $2,500 in cash from drug sales and five firearms. Chantharath pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of methamphetamine on Oct. 17.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Carter prosecuted the case.
