SATURDAY’S DIVISION I ROUNDUPS

ARKANSAS STATE 13-11, ILLINOIS STATE 4-5

Arkansas State (2-1) wasted little time in sweeping Saturday’s doubleheader against Illinois State (1-2) in Jonesboro.

The Red Wolves scored three runs in the first inning of the first game, added two runs each in the third, fourth and fifth innings and scored four more in the eighth inning. Austin Baker led ASU offensively, going 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Ty White went 4 for 5 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI, while Joe Schrimpf went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. The Red Wolves scored five runs in the first inning of the second game and added six runs in the sixth. Zach George went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI to lead ASU offensively.

EVANSVILLE 7-16,

UALR 2-3

Evansville (2-1) jumped on UALR (1-2) early and often to sweep both games of Saturday’s doubleheader at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.

In the first game, Evansville scored two runs in the first inning and three runs in the second. UALR scored its only two runs in the fifth, and the Purple Aces countered with two more runs in the eighth.

Josh Jyawook went 2 for 3 for Evansville with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, while Kevin Kaczmarski went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI and Boomer Synek went 2 for 5 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. Matt Rodgers (1-0) got the victory after allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings. Patrick Schnieders got his first save of the season after allowing 1 hit with 4 strikeouts in 4 innings.

Evansville needed just seven innings to claim the second game after scoring five runs in the second inning, three in the third and six in the sixth. Jyawook was key again offensively, going 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 6 RBI. Jarod Perry went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI for the Purple Aces. Brodie Harkness (1-0) got the pitching victory after allowing 3 runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts in 6 innings. Stephen Chandler (0-1) took the loss for UALR after allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 8 hits with 2 strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.

LOUISIANA-MONROE 4

Central Arkansas had 15 hits and scored four runs in the sixth inning to beat Louisiana-Monroe at Warhawk Field in Monroe, La.

The Bears trailed 4-3 going into the sixth. Logan Preston’s home run tied the game at 4-4. Braxton Phillips singled in James Lacy to put them up 5-4. Phillips scored on a double steal to make it 6-4 and Wesley Hoover scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-4.

Phillips led the Bears by going 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Nate Ferrell went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Chris Townsend went 2 for 5 and Preston went 2 for 4 and scored 2 runs. Tyler Langley went 2 for 4 and had 2 RBI.

Bo Stitch pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief to get the victory after starter Andrew Kemmerer gave up 4 runs on 7 hits in 4 innings.
