Mayor vetoes sign waiver over notice

North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith issued his first veto of City Council legislation last week since taking office Jan. 1, 2013.

The veto came because notices to the public misstated when the legislation would be heard by the City Council.

The veto of Ordinance 15-13, which was passed on a 7-0 vote on Feb. 9, granted waivers to allow a 22-foot, 8-inch tall, 100-square-foot, free-standing, pole LED sign at The Boulevard retail center, 10840 Maumelle Blvd., for the planned Nashville Rockin Grill restaurant. Alderman Beth White was absent.

The legislation waived the prohibition for requiring a ground-mounted, monument-style sign, the 10-foot maximum height limitation and the 64-square-foot maximum size for a sign.

Fit 2 Live offices take up new digs

The city’s Fit 2 Live office will be in a new space starting this week.

The office moved out of City Hall, 300 Main St., and into the City Services Building, 120 Main St. on Thursday and Friday.

The Fit 2 Live Initiative began in 2009 as a program to address obesity and to encourage city residents to live healthier lives by being active and providing information about how to choose and prepare healthier food options. Late last year, the office began coordinating a new results-based, wellness incentive program for city employees.
