Maryland (5-1) added three insurance runs over its final two innings at the plate. The Razorbacks (4-2) used seven pitchers in the loss and finished the weekend showcase with a 1-2 record.

The late-inning collapse overshadowed a strong start by Arkansas freshman Keaton McKinney, who allowed one run and struck out four batters in five innings. He left the game with Arkansas leading 6-1.

Brett McAfee hit a two-run home run in the second inning and Tyler Spoon added a three-run home run in the third to help the Razorbacks build a five-run lead. Spoon's home run came during a rally in which Arkansas recorded six consecutive hits with two outs.

But the offense never got going again after the disastrous bottom of the sixth, which lasted nearly 45 minutes. Three Maryland relievers combined to throw six scoreless innings to end the game.

The Razorbacks chased Maryland freshman Brian Shaffer after three innings. Shaffer allowed six runs on eight hits.

Arkansas is scheduled to host California for a four-game series beginning Thursday at Baum Stadium.
