Winners have been announced in the Thea Foundation's Creative Writing Scholarship Competition.

Jackson Floyd of Little Rock Central High School won a $4,000 scholarship for first place. Emily Snider of Mansfield High School placed second, receiving a $2,500 scholarship. Three honorable mentions also were selected.

There were 78 works of short fiction submitted from high school students across the state.

This is the fifth year for the North Little Rock nonprofit to host the Creative Writing Scholarship Competition and the 13th year for the overall scholarship competition, which includes six categories.

The Thea Foundation has awarded nearly $2 million in scholarships to students throughout Arkansas during that time, partnering with four-year colleges in the state, a technical college and several schools outside of the state, according to a foundation news release.

Winners of each of the six competitions will be recognized at an awards ceremony May 3 in North Little Rock.

Amboy group sets fundraiser supper

A spaghetti supper fundraiser sponsored by the Amboy Neighborhood Association will be at 6:30 p.m. March 16 at the Burns Park Hospitality House, located at Military and Joe Poch drives in North Little Rock.

The cost will be $4 for adults and $2 for children for meals consisting of spaghetti with meat sauce, a roll, small salad, dessert and drink. Additional drinks and dessert will be available for an additional cost.

A portion of the funds raised will be used for planters and plants to enhance the new Amboy Wall recently erected at MacArthur and Military drives. The wall prominently identifies the Amboy Neighborhood and can be used to advertise neighborhood events.

The Amboy Neighborhood Association is a nonprofit group that meets on the third Monday of every month at the Burns Park Hospitality House.
