4 dead, 1 wounded in central Texas domestic disturbance

KILLEEN, Texas — Four people were found shot to death in a neighborhood in Killeen and another was hospitalized in what police Monday were calling an apparent murder-suicide.

Authorities that responded late Sunday to a domestic disturbance call found gunshot victims in a house and were told an armed man had fled with his wife to a house next door. Police heard gunshots from that house and SWAT officers were summoned. About two hours later, the gunman was found dead, Killeen police spokesman Tina Amerson said.

Names of the victims were not immediately released. A preliminary investigation showed the gunman shot two women, ages 29 and 41, and a 40-year-old man. The shooter's wife was identified only as being 28. The wounded 41-year-old woman was taken to a hospital and listed in serious condition.

Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the four victims dead and ordered autopsies at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Amerson said the shootings remained under investigation.

Killeen is about 60 miles north of Austin.
